Madagascar has a long history in natural medicine. For
almost all diseases and discomforts, the Malagasy people has
found a remedy within their rich botanic resources. Centuries
of use have deducted the effective treatments, and now these
are being transformed into consumer products.
At the same time the natural environment of the plants and
trees, which are the basis of these products, is in danger.
An increasing population combined with a tradition of slash
and burn strategies and a lack of economic capacity to change
this, put a big pressure on these unique ecosystems. Additionally
Madagascar is politically not capable to control the preservation
of its precious nature.
